Bradford and Glasgow sees declining trend in UK’s fitness business

While the UK experiences an otherwise dramatic increase in the health and fitness sector in the last five years, two of the nations’s biggest cities don’: Glasgow and Bradford are currently seeing a steep decline in the number of health and fitness businesses compared to the rest of the UK.

The fitness industry booms in the UK, except in two large cities.

These surprising numbers had been reported by Simply Business previously.

According to the report, the number of people in the UK who established thelmselves as dieticians and nutritionists went up by 272 per cent between 2010 and 2015, with new fitness centers and gyms increasing by 59 per cent.

There are, however significant regional differences across cities in the United Kingdom

Not surprisingly, London is leading the list with an increase of 89% in health and fitness businesses. In the thousands, in Leeds, the rise of fitness -related businesses has been reported as 57% and with 48% in Edinburgh

Seeing the steep increases in fitness businesses in those cities makes the data from Bradford and Glasgow in particular surprising, these two cities have seen a fall in their respective numbers.

As for Glasgow,new health and fitness businesses declined by percent while the same industry saw a decline by 7% from 2010 to 2015

It is in this context noteworthy to mention that Bradford in Glasgow are the two locations in the UK with the lowest life expectancy. The male life expectancy in Glasgow there is nowadays six years below the U.K.’s average.

Bradford as well is all the way at the bottom of the list for healthy life expectancy. While the average for a healthy life in the United Kingdom is around 64 years, it is a 52 years for those living in Bradford.

In contrast, London and Leeds, the cities with the most flourishing fitness industries are considered the nation’s wealthiest places, meaning that the current numbers are reflecting the general middle-class trained

UK Businesses Say They Are Lacking Support by The Government

Business startups in the United Kingdom say they don’t get enough support from the UK government. Too much of the help offered today is merely focused on London’s start-up scene. Those are the findings of a new study conducted by The British Library.

Over 500 people that own businesses  in the UK had been surveyed and more than 50% of those asked said they felt they would have benefited from some sort of local advice but did not get it.

A majority of those surveyed stated that the British government should be doing more to encourage people to set up a new company. Seventy percent said  this would have helped them in the early years after they started their business.

Fastest Expansion in UK Business Investment in Two Years

Recent numbers show that business investment in the UK grew by 5% in the first three months of this year. This is almost double the prior estimate of 2.7%.

Although business investment is among  the factors used to assess the amount of “spare capacity” in an economy,  the Office of National Statistics kept its estimate for economic growth in the quarter unchanged at 0.8%

In the beginning of this year, the Bank of England estimated there was between 1% and 1.5% of spare capacity in the economy.

This spare capacity usually arises from underinvestment by businesses. It is the Bank of England’s way of gauging how far the nation’s GDP is below its potential growth. According to the Office of National Statistics,  investment contributed 0.4% of the 0.8% of growth in the economy in the first quarter.
